Wuxi Expat Pub to Do Count Up Instead of Count Down on New Year's Eve

Defying tradition, Mahovlich's Bar & Grill, in the Meicun District of Wuxi, China, is going to count up instead of count down the last ten seconds, or so, of 2012.

We are going say “One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten! Happy New Year!” instead of backwards as is tradition!” said Mahovlich's manager Duston Short.

Asked why the pub, run by Ontario Canadians, was doing this, Short told the WCE Blog that the pub wanted “a smooth end to 2012.” “It is not because we don't know how to count backwards. We do. It is just we find, during the countdown rehearsal which we have being doing the past month, we find things do more smoothly if we count up!”
